Guidelines for Poster Competition
The ISSST Student Poster Competition is sponsored by the Scientific Committee of the International Symposium on Sustainable Systems and Technology to honor outstanding posters created and presented by students in the field of sustainable systems and technology. While the Poster Session is open to all symposium participants, the session is particularly suited to students as an opportunity to share scholarly work as a visual display, even in its early stages, to practice presenting, and to interact with colleagues and gather feedback.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three posters. Posters will be evaluated on three areas by several judges: content, visual appearance, and oral presentation. Content refers to the quality of the research presented on the poster. Visual appearance is the organization and layout of the content on the poster and the effectiveness of conveying the content. Oral presentation is the effectiveness of the presenter at verbally explaining the content on the poster; this requires the presenter to be standing next to the poster throughout the poster session. All three areas will be weighted equally. Gifts will be provided for all poster session participants (first authors only).
Any first author student who has an abstract accepted for the ISSST Poster Session is automatically entered into the Student Poster Competition, unless he/she does not wish to participate in the competition. To be eligible for the competition, the first author must be a student on or after January 1 of this year.
Poster Session Details
Posters will be mounted on foam core posterboards that are 36″ x 48″ (3/16″ thick), which will be mounted on easels. Supplies will be provided for mounting posters to the posterboards. Posters being considered for the student poster competition must be the size of the posterboard or smaller (i.e., you may not bring a larger board and participate in the competition).

- relevance to the field of sustainable systems and technologies,
- quality and originality of the research, as well as
- quality of writing and presentation.
There are five conditions for eligibility:
- Only papers based on work presented at ISSST are eligible. (Papers may be based on either poster or oral presentations, or both).
- The entrant must be a student on or after January 1 of this year and the research must have been conducted while the entrant was a student.
- The paper must present original research results.
- The paper must be written primarily by the entrant with only minor outside editorial assistance. One or more advisors may appear as co-authors of a paper, but the student must be the first author listed.
Papers must be prepared in accordance with the ISSST Instructions for Authors and template, with a few exceptions. Please list the paper title, authors’ affiliations and e-mail addresses on the first page only. On the second page, repeat the title, include the Abstract and begin the main body of the paper. To ensure a blind review process, do not include headers or footers that would identify the authors or affiliations to reviewers. Similarly, redact identifying information from any acknowledgements.
These entries must be emailed to Vikas Khanna at email@example.com using the entrants passcode no later than 5 May. (Please note that this is one day earlier than regular paper submissions).
